Designed to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) SILVER certification by the U.S. Green Building Council, the new main kitchen at Metropolitan State Hospital is designed and built as a model of energy efficiency, water conservation and environmental responsibility.

In addition to the buildings sustainable design features, the kitchen employs a state-of-the-art cook-chill system, which improves the hospitals ability to meet the special dietary needs of individuals with mental illness; an important element in establishing and maintaining wellness.

The facility also consolidates meal preparation and serving functions previously scattered throughout several locations on hospital grounds, leading to lower operating costs and greater efficiency.

From green building standards to 21st century nutrition and food preparation techniques, the Metropolitan Hospital kitchen complex is a shining example of the state of Californias commitment to better places in which to live, work and do business, for all.
