When EO Wilson's Sociobiology was published, he was labelled a Nazi and a dangerous man. A lot of the people who even criticized him were Scientists.
So it's really hard to put oneself into understanding the Science of certain fields.

Can you exemplify any such biased results having a lasting effect upon science? I'd really like to hear of such.

What? You don't regard the determination and mining of genomics as an advancement? How about the knowledge about gamma ray bursters, and the planetary science advances that spacecraft have brought? How about the advancement of climate science and oceanography caused by the GW debate? M theory in physics, Einstein-Base condensates, cladistics in biology, a huge amount of plate tectonics? Where have you been?

Theory can be so well evidenced (better than a lawyer's "greater than any reasonable doubt", perhaps) that scientists will treat it as if it were fact.

The main evidence for the big bang is the cosmic microwave background; no other theory can explain it except the Big Bang. In fact, it's existence explains details of the large grain structure of the universe that have only just been discovered. No signs of a cyclical nature have been detected, which would be needed by most other cosmologies.

This vid reminds me why I have a daily passion to get out of bed every morning and head off to my job of teaching science to high schoolers in the bible belt of the USA. I consider my job very important to the future of this country and it's ability to climb it's way out of the abyss of ignorance. Facts don't go away when ignored.
Nice job on this vid and faved. Thanks for making these necessary and all important messages for the ignorant.
