Genesis, Version 2.0.
Text by Michael Shermer, editor of "Sceptic Magazine" and author of "Why Darwin Matters":
"To convey the logical absurdity of trying to squeeze the round peg of science into the square hole of religion, I penned the following scientific revision of the Genesis creation story. It is not intended as a sacrilege of the poetic beauty of Genesis; rather, it is a mere extension of what the creationists have already done to Genesis in their insistence that it be read not as mythic saga but as scientific prose. If Genesis were written in the language of modern science, it would read something like this."

We can't perfectly understand a book written by an infinite being. Our understanding is finite. Our understanding of the universe is also limited, as science always gets better, but never gets perfect. The fact that two disciplines (neither of which is perfeclty understood) dont line up perfectly really doesnt surprise me. The thing is that true religion doesnt harm science. And true science doesnt harm religion. But there are people on both sides with agendas that would have you think otherwise
One thing you need to realize is that the Bible contains prophecy, and lots of it. About 25% of the Bible was prophecy at the time it was written. No other holy book has this. Also, one thing that should be realized is that every religion except Christianity is a works based religion. That is, they say you have to earn your way to heaven. Christianity doesn't say that. It says that the only way we can get to heaven is to let God help us there. It takes the emphasis on man, and puts it on God.
Many books contain prophecy, but none contain the kind of prophecy that would be solid evidence of divine inspiration. How is the Bible different from the Sibylline Books of the Romans?
ahh, another superstitious nut job. we are all part of the same dying organic matter as everything else. nothing special or divine about it. the earth isn't flat, angels didn't come down from heaven and have sex with man to make giants, and the bible is still located in the fiction section of the library where it belongs.
