Roy was arguably the greatest to ever play goalie. Nobody ever dominated him.

    Except the Red wings.

    Twice.

Sucks to be a Montreal fan ;) Good job at releasing the best goalie in NHL history!

good job, you beat him that night and then he beat you in the WCF to eventually win the Stanley Cup... I'm sure he'd take that trade every day of the week!

They really had no choice after what their coach put him through...

I almost missed this comment. Did you see fight night at the Joe? Of course you did, who didn't? He might have beaten Osgood, (many did) but tiny Mike Vernon left Roy on the ground and bloody! Don't give credit where its not due!

As a 20 year die hard Wings fan I think that Roy becoming coach of the Avs is a good thing. There are no more rivalry's like the classic Wings vs. Vanche from the late 90's. Roy gave me nightmares and the fact was this was a slow poison, as he beat us in the postseason in '96 after we won 62 games! We got him back the next year but what he did in 2000 against us was unbelievable against an All-Star Detroit team!

I don't think that he flat out won either. Vernon pounded him, and Osgood held his own. He is much smaller than Roy (I'm not just talking about height) and their fight was a draw.

Yes, and this was the defining moment when the Montreal Canadiens lost their mojo. Meanwhile Roy went on to win 2 more Cups in Colorado. The Canadiens are now being dominated by everyone else in the league. Good to see that the Habs fans haven't lost their arrogance and hubris after booing their best goalie ever.
