  • My favorite strategy game..

and one of the oldest games of all time!

    A genuine classic.

Note: it was once an (illegal) star trek game.

  • When it was a Star Trek based game do you remember what it's title was?

  • Still one of my favourite ever games! Love this game so much! I can still sit and play it for hours!

  • it was originally Star Trek, programmed in Fortran, later ported to C language. Curryently there is even a Python version (SST2K), all in text/consolo mode. Somewhere in history, it got ported to DOS and also EGA graphics added, since it was originally just played in text mode...

  • @Swizzley Seemed like it was just Trek or maybe Star Trek when it was on the university mainframes - because EGA Trek was different, don't think I liked it as well but I'm rapidly approaching 50 and can't remember! I was trying to explain this game the other day to my pre-teen son (okay, start laughing now!!) who glories in his Legos Star Trek Wii games, trying to explain why his nearly senile mom enjoyed the simpler games..... it was about as popular as a discussion of the Jurassic era.

  • OH I am so trippin' !! - I just found my ancient of days 1989 copyrighted EGA Trek Release 2.1 floppy disk. I do mean "floppy" - not quite the 8" one but floppier than the 3.5 somewhat more rigid disk that came out before CD's. It was my all time favorite game, ever since I first played it on university mainframe UNIX based systems in the 1979-1980 time frame. So ya think maybe it's an eBay collectible (considering I don't even have a working system with that type of drive!!?).

  • Ah man, this game was so cool. I didn't like star trek one bit but I played this for hours on end.

  • Back in the days of my 286 computer, they had those Softmate consoles in malls. You could browse among a whole lot of freeware and shareware stuff and buy a floppy disk at the counter of the shop that console belonged to to put into the console's disk drive and copy the software of your choice. That was where I found EGATrek, and it was still the version with all the Startrek terminology. I guess Nels Anderson (the author) just got a phone call by Paramount one day. xD

  • I remember getting this from a PC Format demo disk in the early ninties, probably spent more time playing it than any of the 'proper' games I had. I can still remember the first time I beat an Admiral rank game!

Oh, and if you like this, you should check out Psi-5 Trading Company!

  • hehe took me a while to figure out you can actually set the warpseed or calibrate the laser gun,I was hitting with 1 dmg XD

  • You took forever to get around. Maybe you should've changed your ship's warp speed? :P

  • awesome.. I think this was one of the first games I ever played
