  • Ricci is by far the best. He's around his sixties here, but when young he was unparalleled.

Here is a better idea of his playing.

  • Dear @IVlr3vil,

It is a direct record from concert in 1973 in hall 'Bulgaria, Sofia. This version is without one variation because maestro has played at end of concert - as a bis .

  • yes! 1st comment, btw pretty ordinary playing, not that i could do better. but I have to say the pizzicato was excellent

  • Dear jimmyd8844,

If this play is pretty and ordinary it means that Zimermann and Kavakos playing are a simple waste. I thing , there are not so good over the You Tube violinists. Really Ricci had played "God save.." as a bis in recital where I have been and this version is not the full. Please, show me better performance t and where I should be pick up.

  • @IVlr3vil today s fiddelers have bettter technique

  • wow, the pizzicato...

  • I was fortunate enough to play in a concert with Mr. Ricci as the soloist and he played this as an encore - absolutely perfectly. Best summed up by our leader - "Well I've just seen it and I still don't believe it!"

  • recording can never compared with the live in challenge

  • the pizzicato was absolutely amazing the that part of the variations so fast i really like the way he plays like it is nothing with full confidence.

  • Well, it's not on youtube, but his name is Li Chuan Yun. I think he plays better than Ricci, Kavakos and Zimmerman. I'll try and post it if I can :)

And not to be argumentative but for discussions sake I think Kavakos is better because his intonation and sound quality are better and he doesn't skate over the up bow staccato in the last variation.
