Besides all the remarkable aspects of de los Angeles in this or any role, and at any age, she's probably the only Carmen who actually plays the castanets, rather than faking it.

Thanks for posting this. I had no idea anyone filmed it. I was at this performance. She was wonderful. Not bad for a 55 year old singer!! She was great on stage. If you have the Card Song, please post it. There is to little of her live in opera. This is a great find.Thank you.

Consider also this was picked up without the best recording equipment (1978) interesting to hear a lyric voice sing this. I remember King well from the 60's. De Los Angeles was a super artist. Her Mimi with Bjorling in the 56 recording was a super recording.

The reason the second aria is so dark is because- there was hardly "any" light on the stage. Considering that- it's pretty good.
