Comedian Jon Stewart on Thursday scolded Rachel Maddow for using the word "teabagger" to describe members of the Tea Party movement.

Appearing on "The Rachel Maddow Show" for an oftentimes quite interesting interview, Stewart also criticized others on MSNBC for taking this vulgar joke way too far (video follows with transcript and commentary):

  • I find it refreshing that Jon Stewart is willing to criticize the left, just as he does with the right. He's a fair man.

  • Many people forget that "Teabaggers" was the term the Tea Party used to describe THEMSELVES in the beginning. Then, when they discovered what that term actually meant, they changed it to the "Tea Party." I also recall Jon being one of the people who made fun of that fact.

  • @bluesman63* the 'teavagger' term did not originate with the Tea Party. It did get picked up by some of them, because they didn't know the gay spang origins.

Funny how gay-bashing epithets, misogyny, and racial slurs are 'okay'- as long as they come from the LEFT.

  • Jon probably has a point that at some point the invocation of the name "Teabaggers" went too far. On the other hand, let us not forget that if not for the intervention of people on the left letting the Tea Party morons know that their own chosen nickname was also a deviant sexual term, they would most likely to this day still be proudly calling THEMSELVES "Teabaggers".

  • The difference between Maddow and Stewart is something called integrity... For some reason she's been endorsing Ron Paul these days. So was I until I saw that... Now I'm probably not going to vote

  • @baldrad1 ... "Utopian State Worship"? Stewart's masterminding it all?

    Seriously?

Um... are conservative commentators all paranoid schizophrenics? Or just the ones on Youtube?

  • @adamk4747 Depends how far right. Stewart loves Ron Paul, an actual conservative as opposed to a neo-con. Additionally, when asked what news outlet he hates the most, Stewart said CNN. Not Fox. CNN.

  • @baldrad1 wtf are you talking about

  • The caricature of the left is a swarmy, elitist, angry narcissist... but I'm sure that's an exaggeration and that there are people on the left who are capable of a reasonable degree of self reflection. Steward himself sometime lapses into open mindedness.

  • @gat0rgirl13 .....REMAIN a respectable news organization? Puh-leeze......it's nothing but a pathetic Loon amen chorus, pitching Utopian State Worship 24-7, 365.....Oh wait--on second thought, it's an on-purpose caricature of the Left. Jon Stewart is probably producing the whole thing......
