Charlie Murray was my great-grandfather's cousin. I am in possession of several letters he wrote to my father's mother in the 1930s.
Charles Murray (22 June 1872 -- 29 July 1941), was an American film actor of the silent era. He appeared in 283 films between 1912 and 1938.
Born in Laurel, Indiana, Murray was a circus clown before joining up with partner Ollie Mack as vaudeville's "Murray and Mack". Best known as Kelly in "The Cohens and the Kellys" movie series, Charlie Murray's career stretched back to silent films. One of the original Keystone Cops. Made 132 films from 1912 to 1938.
Charlie Murray played the title role in the 1925 Mack Sennet (silent) version of The Wizard of Oz. Featured here are excerpts of the film set to the music of Isao Tomita.
Charlie Murray was my great-grand uncle, my great grandfather's brother. Thank you for posting this!
As a side note, he would have never referred to himself as Charles!
