They choose to live in areas noted for poverty because they want to be identified as 'living with the poor'. A monastery in a crime-ridden part of Newark has been open for four years, defying a trend of monasteries losing monks. This place houses monks for the first year of their novitiates, then disperses them around the country. (Video by Ed Murray)
