Whenever I open a piece I seem to throw it off center. It's so annoying. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

i hate it when you destroy it in the end just to show how thick it is -.-

So you just... sitck your hand in...

I just used white clay for the first time today! It is soooo much better (in my opinion) to the terracotta brown clay...
I made the best vase ive ever made =]

...smh really? Freaking pound and a half and you got 12 inches...thats just awfully good. Usually takes me twice that. Reason being to much clay at the bottom and takes me to long to throw a piece.
smh..thats quite skillful

Your videos are the best I have seen for proper technique. In fact, I have learned more from you re: technique than from the instructors were I am taking classes. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Thanks!
Are you using white clay? Where do you get your clay from? I live in NY also and there is a place in Kingston called Baileys I believe, is that where you get yours???Thanks

@TheSignGuy32 The clay could be 250 or 66, both fire whitish. I teach at a place called Clayscapes. We sell clay, glaze and equipment to the northeast. If you ever find yourself wanting something and can't get it from baileys check us out

You're an excellent teacher!! I like how explain things. Do you have any tips for keeping a steady hand while pulling up the wall, especially when you get the wall tall enough where your thumbs can't touch? I also tried pulling the wall up with the joint in my finger like you do, but I couldn't keep my finger or hand steady.

you need to have the outside hand in a tight fist with your pointer finger being the only stickyout point. you should have that elbow on your leg or against your body. the inside hand is harder to stabilize, you can try putting your elbow over the center of the clay but it will come down to practice and muscle training.
