The very first time I played (some 15 years ago, wow), I got the Camu Jewel when I beat him. Every subsequent game thereafter, I never got it. I guess luck was on my side back then.

I'm guessing you had a couple of previous attempts at this where Gades used Destructo-Wave for his attack? It was pretty lucky how he didn't use it for his first few attacks.

Some say that camu drops a jewel if you kill him in one round, but that seems impossible to me :|

It's just random and not very likely. I think I cheated for them just to save myself the headache, it's been a while though.
