Jeff Halper, co-founder of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions, explains why he believes Israel's "separation barrier" enforces apartheid between Israelis and Palestinians. He compares the Israeli West-Bank barrier to the Berlin Wall.

-----

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is an issue that has divided opinions since the state of Israel was formed in 1948. What are the obstacles to achieving peace in the Middle East? Dr. Jeff Halper is an Israeli academic and activist who is no stranger to controversy.

On his recent tour to Australia, the Australian Jewish News refused to advertise his lectures. This would come as little surprise to Halper, who is a vocal critic of Israel's actions in Gaza and the West Bank. Halper claims that Israeli policy towards the Palestinians is akin to apartheid, and that the issue of settlements are intrinsically linked to a wider policy to disempower the Palestinian people.

As co-founder of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions he is actively involved in the non-violent protest of demolitions of Palestinian properties on what Israel deems is illegal land. - Australian Broadcasting Corporation

Jeff Halper grew up in Hibbing, Minnesota and throughout the 1960s was involved in the civil rights and anti-war movements. He has lectured in anthropology and written numerous articles and books on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict including Obstacles to Peace and An Israeli in Palestine.

  • wire fence, wood fence, paper fence, wall--a barrier is a barrier. it cuts into palestinian settlements keeping people from the same families separated.

no one on either side of the berlin wall was commiting suicide bombings(as a form of resistance) true--however no one on either side of the berlin wall had homes demolished, thousands imprisoned, lands taken away, or civilian casualties by the DAY!

  • How can anyone argue about something like this? I mean... "Well, Hitler DID give the people better health care". This is not the issue of Palestine vs Israel. EVERYONE should be able to see whats going on here, and no matter who you suport this is madness.

  • @StangeWorld0000 Wow good argument on the topic...

  • Some non-coherent lunatic, full of demagogy.

"...the wall is higher than the Berlin wall..."

    so what?

  • @DmitriyXYZ before the wall Zionists were also taking Palestinian land, that's why the Palestinian terrorism. Palestinian displacement came first, then came the terrorism.

  • Oh here we go more propaganda, "the wall" isn't a wall, less than 5% is wall.

Where were you left wing idiots when Israelis were being blown up, before "the apartheid wall" was built?

oh yes, you couldn't give a shit, because if there's one thing left wing people are against is racism, except of course anti-semitism masquerading as concern for human rights

  • This man was ranting about the wall as if Palestinian terror is an act of force major!Rather then Palestinian leadership did nothing to prevent those attacks against Israelis! This in a security wall,no matter how long it is.

Apartheid in South Africa, like Segragation laws in the USA until 1950's.Were against black citizens by the whites.Palestinians R in no way Israeli citizens!!!Arab Israelis share same rights as Jews, just like any non Jew living in Israel.

This why this post is antisametic!!

  • @bestmotivatedchange No, the solution is the concept of equality. It isn't religion which is causing violence, it is colonization and radical inequality.

  • Hope can these people live in peace? Would separation of church and state as in America be the solution? The problems tend to fit the historical patterns that preceded the concept.

  • What can we do to peacefully bring about change? All people who love their children. Why live like this. Would the concept of "separation of Church and state" be helpful?

  • @krepIach2 Perhaps that why all this delusional thinking and primitive divisions persist today despite udated present day knowledge;)

We need social evolution..lol. I'm just "poking fun" here, no pun intended.

  • Uhh - why does the height matter ...
