played on 50's harmony baritone ukulele

http://www.ukulele.fr/

as it has been asked a lot : no I don't have tablatures for this one, but here is the chords progression I use (just add the melody notes on top of it), it goes kind of :
Am Dm
G C
Am Dm
G6/9 E7

  • I can't understand all of the confusion about the tuning of that thing. Isn't it just the upper (higher pitched) four strings of the standard guitar tuning?

  • indeed it is so, except - as explained previously in the comments - on this one the fourth string (the one that would be the lower of the four guitar strings) is tuned an octave higher, using the rentrant tuning of a soprano ukulele.

  • I have a baritone uke. it is tuned to g c e a. is this correct. or does it matter? any response would be great. i would like to learn to play the baritone any videos or books? thanks hwy29

  • This is correct as long as you like it but it is a tuning more often seen on soprano, concert or tenor ukuleles ; baritones ukuleles are usually tuned five semi-tones lower, DGBE with a low D (meaning that the D is actually lower than the G) although the one you're hearing on this video is tuned high D (rentrant tuning like a standard/soprano uke)

  • @KDUS how do you get the top string tuned up that high? is it a different type string u use..?

  • @davidstonegmail

Although I no longer tune my baritones this way, I used to string it with a Worth set of strings that a reentrant D. This was mostly to use soprano reentrant tuning techniques, and also because I wanted only full nylon strings - today Worth sells a set of "extra tension" baritone strings with a low D that works well enough, so I don't have to buy a set of Martin for the low strings every week anymore.
