Reflections Unheard: Black Women in Civil Rights focuses on the marginalization of black women between the intersections of Black Power and Feminist ideologies from Civil Rights, up to now.

What's to Come:
As the scope of the project progresses, there are several other issues that will be addressed in the film. One of the most pressing is the contradictory nature of several
white women's movements, which used (and some continue to use) racist ideologies to justify the equal nature of (white) women to (white) men, hence marginalizing the unique
experiences and social issues that black and other women of color face. Even to this day, the very ideologies that are used to alleviate the struggle for (white) women's rights
reinforce the white patriarchal capitalist system that is used to debase women of color.

In addition, a more critical perspective will be given to the Black Power Movement in which many black women activists participated, and how it also reinforced white
patriarchal conceptions of race and gender. Much of the attention given to present day "race" issues or black history is focused on the black male experience, and is often
given wider recognition with the support of certain white liberals who participate in the erasure of the black female perspective. One of the most important aspects of
"Reflections" is that it accounts for the distinct experiences of black women through our own voices and experiences, without the primary reference points of white or male experts.

  • @Wisebrother78 Shut the fuck up and think before you comment

  • The day things make sense will be the day that no race, no female, no creed, no minority looks up with disdain at their captors. That day is likely never to come. Today, I am supposed to join the party with a knowing, playful elbow to the side: "We're on top" because I'm a white hetero-sexual male. I am the minority of the friends I choose.

  • Good Documentary.

  • The intersection of White Supremacy and Patriarchy is one that the Black community does not examine often enough. We have taken for granted that Black men have often sacrificed Black liberation in their efforts to acquire White patriarchal power. So many people have imagined an idealized Black past where White supremacy was the only issue concerning us, and this has had a consequences on our ability to see gender, class, and sexuality as issues concerning Black people and Black determination.

  • Nice work.

  • Who do black folks look up to between, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King?

  • Indeed we are...women that is. Arnold knows Mildred is a woman.
