so... ride the stepper for 5 minutes and get 0.5 mile if you're lucky or ride a normal bike and go 15 miles using the same energy, no contest really is it? how long does it take to charge the lithium battery using just pedal power and how far does it go on that charge? i think these are fair points.

kewl.. i dont care 'really' bowt what it does for the planet or if its more or less efficient than normal .. its kewl regardless2me ;p

The video didn't really show you stepping/pedaling it. I think that the purpose of the Innovate contest is to not only show your product in action but also show at least basically how your invention works. All I saw from this video is a guy scooting around on the bike and using way more electricity from the batteries than he was putting in. Don't get me wrong, the Stepper looks like a halfway decent idea, but I don't think you really read the contest rules.
Additionally, I do not believe that you improved on the concept of the bike. You are still using a chain-on-sprocket drive train and have essentially only modified the front crank shaft to accommodate your steppers. Disadvantages include efficiency lost in the up/down motion on the crank and the lack of a seat. All in all, an interesting idea, but not very practical if you are trying to go further than a mile.

since we can only write 500 word response I will write in two
the regular stepper is not a bicycle it was never intended to be one what it is a work out machine if you ride the stepper for more then a mile it will be equivelent of you riding a bike for 10 miles. as you well know you do not have a seat to relax and take a brake.

Part two
That is were the electrical version came in.We design the e stepper with the notion of riding the stepper easier then the regular stepper you still have the option of stepping but you want to take brake in stepping it then you have the electrical motor to kick in to give you a brake with the e stepper you will be able to ride a lot longer then your traditional stepper

anything electric is always more efficient as there is a better percentage of energy transfer ie 90% +
