Some people can't afford to pay for ice hockey or get to ice rinks cause they're so damn far away and gas costs too much now.

Don't be knocking roller hockey. Most of my ice hockey teamates (including myself) all started playing hockey via neighborhood street and inline roller hockey as kids or teenagers. Eventually, we switched over to ice.
A lot of areas have seen a dropoff in youth ice hockey registration due to other, cheaper alternatives such as lacrosse. If we want hockey to continue to grow, I think roller hockey's going to play a big part, as it's cheaper to play in these tough economic times.

@MookieSays1Love -- You are whats wrong with people... roller hockey is people who love hockey, but cannot play ice due to various reasons. I cant drive an HOUR to play, roller is 20 minutes away and I barely have time for that. Plus, more gas, more money, and strange schedules. Hockey rink is now catering to the fuckin ice skaters too much.

I'm an ice hockey player in California, an my friends and I play a lot outside on our rollerblades, but we alway say no hitting is allowed. This is for safety reasons since we don't really wear padding, but I was wondering if hitting is allowed in organized roller hockey. If it is, than at what age level can you hit?

I'm from Victoria BC Canada. Ive played Ice all my life. Roller hockey became big here about 10 years ago. In our league there is no hitting, but the guy tripped me and my D partner nailed him. (typical Ice hockey mentality) He did get a penalty for the hit. I have mixed emotions playing both ice and roller. But if I lived in California I would play roller only! I actually thought about moving to Anaheim to play roller and the girlfriend was going to work at Disneyland! But i'm not that good!
