  • LUCKILY, WHEN YOU WERE ASKED TO SOLVE THE STRUTURAL PROBLEM OF THE NOT- SYMMETRICAL 40 STOREY BUILDING IN EARTHQUAKE ZONE BEIJING, IT WAS DECIDED BY THE IGNORANT AND UNEDUCATED CLIENT TO HAVE A WEIRD BUILDING! YOU ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FAILURE. HOWEVER, MY ARCHITECT'S STRUTURAL EXAM. ON EARTHQUAKE DESIGN WOULD SUGGEST THIS ASYMMETRICAL HIGH-RISE WOULD FAIL IN 100,000 TONS OF EARTHQUAKE FORCE WITH A PENDULUM MOTION THAT WOULD NOT GO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL CONDITION!
