This is an idea that I would love to see implemented in a tablet. I think it would only be practical on a tablet and would be a great way to take panoramic pictures. The idea is illustrated in the animation, but here's a break down of it:

1) Put a fish eye lens adaptor over the camera lens. This will create a 360 degree environment map. A camera isn't ideal for this as its lens doesn't point up.

2) Once the photo/video has been taken, it is processed by the tablet software and made into an immersive map on a 3D hemisphere.

3) Finally, the best way to view this image is on the tablet. Now, you can scroll with your finger unrestricted to a rectangular frame. This is something that can't be done well on small screened camera.

It could even be done for videos to record a special event.
