Cool stuff! I thought I knew a bit about this stuff but I stand corrected! I couldn't imagine foot-slogging across the endless hot steppes of Russia in that gear! Them guys were pretty tough! Glad I found this channel! Hello from Canada!

Ok , i might have gotten it a bit mixed up. I do however have pictures of german soldiers in may of 1940 in Belgium without the Y-straps. Might depend on unit to unit i guess?
any chance you'll do a Fallschirmjaeger video?

Like the history vids.
however in 1940 there are some things to note:
In 1940 the german army didnt use Y straps. Only cavalry units did. The rest had to make due with internal suspenders with the belthooks at the ends. And every metal fitting was aluminium including the belt buckle.

@enfield777 I had a recheck of the books - Imfantry regt's were equiped with 'Y' straps during the invasion of France.
