@rinaldinrobert I'll try and get something up with the D-Activator 8 in it. When it comes down to it, its a matter of taste - if you like active pickups, you'll prefer the EMGs, if, like me, you prefer passive pickups, then you'll prefer the D-Activator. Can't promise how soon I'll be able to do a a vid with 'em - but I've been planning some more comparison vids for a while now, so that will be one of them :D
Cheers,

@CliveJevons i'd like to hear rg2228 with di marzio d-activator 8 (i know it's a great pick up, but i don't know if it is better that emg808 or emg808x)... can u make a video please?? XD

@rinaldinrobert Everyone is entitled to their opinion ;) I'd still take my Blackmachine or my Hufschmid over the Ibanez any old day :D ... but that's NOT to say that the Ibanez isn't a great guitar per se. I've put a DiMarzio D-Activator 8 in the bridge of my RG2228 since making this vid, and its really brought the guitar alive!
I've currently got a Schecter ATX C-8 on order. Will be interesting to see how that compares to the Ibby.
Cheers,

I think RG2228 is the best 8 strings guitar!!!
I tried the Ibanez 8 string at a music show a few years ago and I didn't like it. The neck is just too damn square. Plus, next to the Blackmachine, it looks like a toy.

@theMachineandI well put! haha :D
I will say, though, that it serves as a perfectly useful backup in live situations ... and since I've had a DiMarzio D-Activator 8 put in the bridge, it actually sounds pretty decent, too :) (Obviously still no where near as good as the Blackmachine ;)).
Cheers,

@CliveJevons Yeah, man. Just like having a Morris Minor is better that having no car at all. If I were on the stage and my BMs string broke, or something, I wouldn't hesitate in picking up an Ibanez. Hopefully it would be a JS model; those things are by far the best Ibanez I've ever played. Save for the sacred RG 550 I tried out when I was 13 and didn't buy. I think we've all got that "one the got away", though, haven't we?

@theMachineandI haha - yeah, I remember trying out an Ibanez Universe back when they were just released ... I was really intrigued by the concept of 7 strings and fun jamming on it in the music store; but I was still in school then and couldn't afford it :( Looking back, I'd have LOVED to have been able to get it ...

@CliveJevons I've never been able to get my hands on a Universe, only RG 7s. I wish I could. Even though Vai's guitars are always quite gaudy - I mean white, gold, and pearl, really? They're usually very good.

@theMachineandI his guitars match the fan he uses onstage in Spinal-Tap-esqueness (sorry, I'm making words up now ;))
