    The 1997 rover was American. The Soviet Union made three landing attempts in the early 1970s, with 2 crashes and 1 landing that sent back garbled data for 15 seconds. They had much better luck with Venus.

    Mike was referring to the Curiosity Rover because he thought it was the first rover on Mars. It was not. The first one on mars was in 1997, and I believe it was Russian.

    Not exactly though. No one's landed on mars yet, but there's been several rovers that have explored it.
