Here is 'The Rapper' by The Jaggerz from 1970, their #1 hit. The video consists of about 50 compilation LPs, Tapes, and CDs The Rapper has appeared on since 1970. And I am still missing about 10.

Correct me if I'm wrong...I heard The Jaggerz were an American Indian group and took their name from Mick Jagger. This was years back so maybe it was an "urban legend".

There was both a American Indian group and a British group called The Jaggers. There was also an old drum head maker called Jaggers. The Jaggerz changed from the 's' to a 'z' ending after seeing an ad for the drum company. The name was unrelated to Mick Jagger but rather from Western PA slang for thorn bushes.

It was released in 1969 but not until early 1970 did it reach its highest position. My father was in the group.

true, & it couldmean, to just hang out and "talk". if you think about it, "rapping" now, is chanting a poem or lyrics.., talking, not really singing.. (in response to Truman O)

Tim: You are right. In the late 60s thru' the mid 70s, "to rap" was a colloquialism used by "hippies/freaks" for ", "telling about an experience'", "persuading a chick to come home with you", "speaking in an informative or impressive way", etc. Among the phrases used at that time were; "rap on brother", "let's hear your rap", "he's rapping to some chick", "good rap", etc. It was NOT about music!

In "hippie speak" or "freak speak" of the late 60s through the mid 70s, it was commonplace for someone to say "rap on, brother", "good rap" (if the listener enjoyed what the speaker had said), or to encourage someone to speak "let's hear your rap". "Rap" was a colloquialism for "speaking" ,e.g., "trying to pick up a chick" or "telling about an experience ". It had nothing to do with music!

They could not have possibly known at the time, but this song was way ahead of its time.

The more info. the better, especially from someone from their hometown. Thanks man. This song has one of the best combinations of badass rhythm and guitar. I love it!

OK, I will. You're wrong. The Jaggerz were a group from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania with all American members. As for the name, yun'z wouldn't understand. You gotta be from dahn arahnd the Pgh area. So, only people from Pittsburgh have ever been stuck by a jagger bush. I'll shut my mahth now.
