  • my friend sabes los nombres de los tunes??

  • claro... lee los primeros posts.

    :-D

  • If anyone thinks that this video is enough to know how Paddy Keenan plays, it's in mistake.

I recorded this video (and the other) because I want to keep in mind how he plays, and try some his firing pipering.

And... at least, the most important thing is to play the tune. Of course.

  • Finally, I realize it is an easy mistake to make differentiating between set dances and hornpipes but if you're going to state that all of these are hornpipes, which is incorrect, then I have the right to make opposition.

  • I noticed the second part is much longer than the first, but I didn't know that were the difference between "hornpipe" and "set dance". Thanks a lot.

  • he is a master piper

  • And now for a piece of useless information for all you nostalgia buffs - the set-dance tune (Garden of Daisies) was the theme tune for the old RTE programme from the 60's/70's called The Riordans.

  • I can tell you, Paddy DESPISES being videoed at gigs, to the point of being rather cantankerous about it on stage. Re hornpipe vs whatever, it may be useful from some historic viewpoint, but I prefer to enjoy it rather than to argue about what 'box' it fits into. Paddy actually mentioned on stage, recently, reading arguments on the internet about whether this was a hornpipe or set dance (maybe this thread!), and he seemed bored by such a discussion. Then he played the tune amazingly well.

  • what is it about my comment that was an attack? perhaps I was expressing admiration for your skills.

  • you don't need to know the rhythm or timing just to play it? wow...so that explains your videos.

  • Didn't mean to be pedantic in my posts. It is a nice tune and I understand that you can be easily confused between hornpipes and set dances due to the same key signatures. I was just getting it politically correct. Anyway, it's no big deal. It's a great tune anyway. Who'd like a pint?

  • Your very astute mate! 2/4 time usually tells me to play a polka (where most drummers go get a beer)The key to a hornpipe is giving it the "swing" feel to the music and keeping it in 4/4. Many players (drummers) try to do it in 3 giving an incorrect feel to the dance. After all, its almost all dance music.
