Hate Is A Strong Word Ch. 44

Kaitlyn's POV
I looked up into his glistening brown eyes, trying to see if he was really telling the truth.
I was so confused. I had no idea what to feel. So I did the only thing I could think to do... I turned and walked away.
"Where are you going?" Nick asked me.
I turned to face him. "You really expect me to believe that?" Wow Kaitlyn, that was kind of mean, I thought to myself.
He looked offended. But I'm mad at him right now. He cheats on me and then tells me he loves me... what is that about?
"I would never lie to anyone that I love." He pointed out harshly.
"HA! Yeah right. You lied to Sydney about liking me!" I shouted through the rain that was crashing down on the pavement.
"I never loved Sydney" He pointed out.
"Oh, well thats just great. Was she also on your list of bump and dumps?" I was shocked and angry that he would do something like that to my best friend.
"Now thats not fair! Don't even go there!" He pointed a finger at me and I ignored it.
"Well then why were you with her if you didn't love her?" I asked him.
"I really liked her Kait."
"Well do you still really like her?" He rolled his eyes and sighed at me. "Because it looks like you're capable of liking many girls at once. And hey, the more the merrier, right!?" I was fuming now. And the fact that I was soaking wet didn't help.
He calmly walked closer to me and placed his right hand on my left cheek, looking directly and intensely into my furious eyes. "Do you love me?"
I felt everything soften at that moment. My eyes, the rain, the volume of our voices... everything.
Once again, I didn't know what to do and I was a nervous wreck. "You can't answer with a question... this isn't jeopardy." I tried to act nonchalant. He continued to look at me. I couldn't stand it anymore, so I moved my face away from his hand and his gaze.
He shoved his hands into his wet pockets. "Do you love me, or not? Because I just told you I loved you and I would really like to know what youre feeling right now."
How was he being so calm?
"Well, to be honest I'm really pissed off right now." I spat.
He shook his head at me, looking really disappointed. "Kaitlyn, that's not what I meant and you know it."
I sighed, running my hands through my drenched locks of hair. "I don't- I don't really know what to say..."
He sucked in a quick breath and backed away from me slowly as he looked around nervously. That scared me. Usually, he likes to be close to me when we talk. He didn't say anything for a couple of seconds, but then he started to talk quietly.
"You don't have to say anything," He paused, like he was thinking about something, "I really think that we need to take a break."
My mouth hung open and I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion. Then I was really furious. "Yeah, maybe we should!"
He closed his eyes and bit down on his bottom lip. "I'll see you in school tomorrow, okay?" And with that, he turned and started to walk back to his house.
"So thats it?" I called after him. "Promises mean nothing to you?"
He stopped dead in his tracks and turned to face me. "What does a promise have anything to do with this?"
"You promised that you would never give up on us," I explained, my voice shaky.
"Never," He said, just like that first time, when he came all the way home from Germany just to see me. And that made me think, was he trying to tell me something? But then he was gone.

My breathing started to become heavy again. I couldn't believe what just happened. I'm the one thats mad at him, and HE breaks up with ME? This kid is so confusing.
But I guess thats why I like him. Hes different, spontaneous, cute, funny, outgoing and confusing.
Is this what love feels like? Because, I'm not sure I like it.

Sorry, I love Nick and Kaitlyn too. But they're having a bit of a rough patch, as you can see. :/
