LEED Credits for Energy Modelers | Energy-Models.com

The LEED rating system contains 100 points, but an additional ten points brings the actual total to one hundred 10. Most of these points are outside the scope of an energy-model. However, looking at the chart, it is clear that energy-and atmosphere is the largest portion of LEED, and thus, an energy-modelers job is critical, especially when attempting LEED silver, gold or platinum.

For now, we are going to look at the individual categories and the credits for each. While the rest of this course discusses implementation of EA CREDIT 1, here we will discuss what other credits may be relevant to an energy-modeler.

We will start with sustainable sites:

Here, it is clear that Alternative Transportation has the most points. However, the Light pollution reduction and Heat island effect are both related to ea credit 1, as denoted by an asterisk. Therefore, those are two credits that an energy-modeler should be familiar with.

The next category is Water Efficiency, which has less overall points, but has points that may be relevant to an energy modeler:

Many simulation programs report recoverable water from cooling coil condensate, and this water can be applied as an innovative waste water technology.

The next category, Energy and Atmosphere, contains the most credits of any category, and contains the credit "optimize energy performance" which requires an energy model. We will come back and discuss this credit in a moment......
