of course the music has no emotion or power, it's supposed to be a comment on muzak and modern living -- mundane talk, mundane music -- like music you'd hear in a mall. i'm sure they would've found a way to massage it into the actual film had it not been for kubrick's change of mind.

sometimes -- as in this case -- directors fall in love with their temp scores, and there's nothing even a brilliant composer can do to change his mind.

Thank you! Totally agree. Kubrick was right on to flush this. Check out North's original music for the opening title music and "The Dawn Of Man" sequence if you haven't already. Hilarious shit. Sounds like a high school band warming up before the big game.

Could be we're so used to the original soundtrack,but....this does absolutely nothing for me,it sounds just like some 2nd rate tv play score,thankfully
