"The seven gifts which God gives he has already given His Mother."

And I wish now to ennumerate for you how he gave these seven gifts to His Mother, so that those who hear them may strive to serve Her and keep themselves from sin so that they may have Her mercy, for blessed is he who has it.
The first of these gifts is to know perfectly all goodness, in order to please God. Holy Mary had this gift, therefore God came to take on flesh in Her and with this flesh He will later come to judge us.
The second gift is great understanding. Holy Mary had this gift, I swear by my faith. Therefore, God made Her His Mother, and She sits beside Him in Heaven whence She sheds Her grace on us below.
The third is wise counsel, and rightfully did Holy Mary possess it, because all the women who now live or those who came before never had such blessings from God as She had, nor no other ever will.
The fourth is fortitude, and this She possessed to such great degree that because of it the devil lost his power the moment God took on flesh in Her and became a man, for from then on it was broken and imprisoned, and he will never recover it.
The fifth gift is wisdom and discretion, which the Holy Virgin Mary abundantly possessed, which caused Her to reply meekly when the angel told Her that She would be Mother who watches over all, and She said: "I am His faithful handmaiden."
The sixth gift is compassion, which She most certainly has and has ever had for all who call on Her in times of great trouble now and forevermore. Therefore, sinners have Holy Mary as Advocate before God, and it will always be so.
The seventh of these gifts is to have fear of God, and this She had but always with love. For this reason, She became Mother of our Lord, Jesus Christ, God and Man, Who will reign forever.
Therefore, we should praise Her for these seven gifts and ask Her to cause Her Son to pardon our sins and protect us from error so that we may live there in His kingdom with Him.

  • ¡Bellisimo!

  • I love how the refrain rhymes in Castellano (Castilian Spanish)! "The 7 gifts which God gives" sound like the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit that my kids learned about in Confirmation class.
