Ambassador James B. Cunningham and Mrs. Leslie Cunningham visited the mixed Jewish-Arab city of Ma'alot-Tarshiha in the north of Israel. The city is a vivid example of coexistence between Jews and Arabs. Mayor Shlomo Buchbut, alumnus of a U.S. Embassy exchange program and Chairman of the Union of Local Authorities in Israel, gave greetings while the Ambassador reinforced the U.S. commitment to peace in the region. As part of the same visit, the Ambassador and Mrs. Cunningham also visited the Druze community in Beit-Gan, met with its leaders, and sampled local food and music.
