I hear beautiful playing of Brahmsian harmonies with a "Russian folksong" approach. Do I hear some influence of Schumann and Hindemith?

I love this recording, have got the CD, I like all the works on it, but the viola sonata in particular. Esp. that C-major recitativo in the 2nd movement. Oh yeah! Have now also bought the sheet music and am studying... hope to perform it soonishly.

either one was following wagner and list, or one was following Brahms.
I just got the symphonies of Herzogenberg and Gernsheim, and they are pure Brahmsian.

Such a tragedy. Yeah he sounds like Brahms, but he didn't copy Brahms! Yet he (Rontgen) has paid the price, by being relegated to the obscurity bin!
