Back In Visak
26 May, 2006 :: Visakhapatnam, India
Doulos is no stranger to the city of Visakhapatnam, in the eastern state of Andhra Pradesh. Many guests and members of the press who attended the Official Opening ceremony, mentioned their previous visits on board in both 1988 and 1992.
Guest of honour, Mr Swaranjit Sen I.P.S., the Director General of Police for Andhra Pradesh, made a special effort to attend the event. He had only a few hours between flights in which he could come to the ship. Although he humbly claimed to be a man of few words, he eloquently welcomed Doulos to the region and suggested that a ship carrying 45 nations together, is a kind of replica of what India strives for - unity in diversity. "The advantage you have is that when you're floating together on a ship, you all have to go in the same direction!" he joked.
One of the first people in the city to tour the onboard book fair, Mr. Swanjit chose several titles on language and literature. "Both Visakhapatnam and Doulos will be greatly mutually benefited by your visit here," he declared. "Let the next visit not be after 14 years!"
