WiLDCOAST Investigates Ocean Pollution

WiLDCOAST Coastal Conservation Program Manager Ben McCue tests an outfall from the Residencial San Marino Development. WiLDCOAST protects and preserves coastal ecosystems and wildlife in the Californias and Latin America by building grassroots support, conducting media campaigns and establishing protected areas. A coastal development boom in Northern Baja California, Mexico is fast outpacing the capacity of sewage collection and treatment infrastructure.
 Contaminated wastewater and sewage flows pose a major threat to the coastal
ecosystem and the health of local residents and visitors.

Discharges from these developments must be regulated and a water testing program and warning system implemented to protect the public health of ocean users and residents.
