Mike Babb with The Ides of March - Turpentine Wine (new version)

A new version of Turpentine Wine recorded in Chicago on July 1, 2010 working with members of the bands The Ides of March (Vehicle) & Survivor (Eye of the Tiger) who created and produced the revised soundtrack. This is a more upbeat, shorter version - the logic being, it would fit more comtemporary formats for airplay since the original album version is much longer. FYI -- this is a rough studio mix.

I would also like to thank Jim Covert for financing this project and his wonderful hospitality while in Chicago. For a couple of days, I actually felt like a rock star - ha ha. And, special thanks goes out to the guys in the studio for "pushing me" vocally and not letting me play it safe. Indeed, it was quite an experience working with true professionals in such a cool studo with an actual Grammy Award on display.

And this song is still great, no matter the version - this a pretty good one too, in the "radio-hit" way of putting it, though the other one is more heartfelt, more touching and convincing.

Well, that is GREAT!! I have sung "Vehicle" over 1000 times (I used to be in a horn band that played lots of private parties), anyway, you are super blessed to have such great musicians backing you. I think this version of your great song is even more soulful than the earlier version. Love it!!

@EowynLis Thank you once again Odi -- yeah, the original TW was considered a little too long for radio, so this was what happened after some industry pros kind of re-did it. It's a long story as to why, but I never tried to sell this version. But, what I like about it is the fact that the studio techs -- and some grammy award winners involved with the project -- really pushed me vocally because this version was more challenging to sing at the faster tempo.
