The big hit delivered by Scott Stevens in game 6 of the Stanley cup finals was not enough to crush Paul Kariya or his spirit. Paul Kariya delivers one of the most memorable goals in Stanley Cup Finals history.
We've recently started a campaign to have Paul's number retired in Anaheim and lifted to the rafters at Honda Center. Like us on Facebook and help our cause!

@Madmanacrosstewater - Paul did not choose to leave the game. He can not be medically cleared to play due to his history of concussions. Doctors have told him that another big hit could cause him to suffer permanent brain damage or worse. It's not a matter of choice if e can not be cleared to play.

Paul needs to comeback for one more season and put up his 1000th point. He is currently at 989 points, and played 989 games. I think if he works hard to get healthy again to come back just for one more season to play with Selanne.
Teemu is looking for goal #700, and he could sure use Paul's help like the old days, and Paul could definitely get 11 points on the season, and then they could retire together at the end of the season, and hopefully walk out Stanley Cup Champs!

Paul can't comeback to play. It's not that he physically can't do it. As you can find on youtube there are plenty of videos of him working and rehabbing, and he looks great. A doctor will not medically clear him to play because of the history of concussions.

I'd like to disagree. I assume he'd be physically able to come back, and if he is, doctors surely WOULD clear him to play. I'm probably not quite fond of him coming back, but then again it'd be a match made in heaven to see him play again with Teemu and maybe even have a stud like Koivu centering them. AARP line for sure, but sweet Jesus, an awesome third line for supplemental scoring.

You would assume wrong. Paul trained for 1 1/2 years to get back into playing shape. He's in physically great shape, and he and Teemu go surfing together often. When he went to be cleared to play at the beginning of last season, it seemed all but done that he'd be signing with the ducks, playing with Koivu/Selanne. He's visited multiple doctors, and they all have said we can't clear you to play because of the post-concussion syndrome. He'd literally be risking his life by taking 1 more hit.

I have this game recorded. This was so epic! What a shot! Kariya is a beast! Amazing player, too bad his career was cut short.

What a beast Kariya was in his career. Things have really changed in the NHL, I doubt Stevens would get away with a head shot like that today. Lidstrom never engaged in that type of hockey but he had the ability to be a great defenseman.
