In the clearest sign yet that the country is in the verge a famine, the government says it is yet to declare a national emergency in regard to the prevailing drought in the country. Reports of failed crop precipitated by the prevailing harsh weather conditions in the country have put about 10 million Kenyans at risk of hunger. In a swift reaction, a food security meeting held today and chaired by president Mwai Kibaki at Harambee house says it will import 5 million bags of maize to cater for an expected national shortfall, as well as avail 500 million shillings to buy livestock from herders in drought stricken areas.
Isn't it crazy that we spend so much money importing food during famines when it is cheaper and more beneficial to put the land under irrigation. we can't keep importing everything. From technolgy now we are importing food? food? That's sad!
