@rlewis1946 Right, it is just the definition of the log function but an example can help illustrate the idea. So if we have ln(y) = x, we can rearrange it like so: y = e^x. There is no number you can insert for "x" that would give "y" a negative value. Hope that makes sense.

@Abba2six This may seem like a dumb question, but why can't the answer never end up as a negative value? Is it because of the definitions of log functions in general? Thanks for your comment: it give another opportunity to learn....

@JustOneChange It's been many, many years ago (1968) since I tried my hand at solving ODE's, so if you would can you help me remember why the absolute value of y must be used? I think it has something to do with the non-negative range of the Ln function (or logarithms in general).....But is the other more important reasons? Thanks for your comment, its really "jogged" my memory!

Probably because idiots are also human beings, just like yourself. Therefore, regardless of your fallen interpretation of their personhood, they can exercise their free will by writing the letter d any way they want to. By the way, this person is doing something to improve society. What are you doing?

Good explanation except when he integrated dy/y, it should be ln|y| (with absolute value brackets). A very common mistake by people but one that shouldn't be missed.
