@MEM0912 the way the gene in the jellyfish is transferred, no it does not harm the mouse because the body thinks that it is supposed to do that, and since it doesn't have any first hand effects on the mouse. In theory, we could do this to humans and it would be 100% harmless other than the normal risk of surgery, but the ethical concerns are too high

@MEM0912 oh shit they glow in the dark their dying read up on a subject before commenting on it

I work in a nuro biology dept as a vet tech for the rodent colony, one day I go in to do cage checks and such, and saw the glow in the dark mice that arived the day befor when I was off.I thought some one dropped LSD in my sweet tea,I was truly freaked out.

@MEM0912 But as mice are also bred to be eaten alive by pet snakes, the argument is a difficult one due to it's breadth.
Glowing humans...LOL Thats gonna take racisim to a whole new level. Get in the back of the bus you Glowie. Can you imagine the raves? Sales of Extacy would skyrocket. Your teenager could never sneak in late at night. Hey, how about we inject every criminal who committed a crime at night with this stuff? OMG now Crypts and Bloods can actually BE Red and Blue!. Don't swim in the ocean at night, unless you like being a human fishing lure. The possibilities are limitless!

So this can finally be settled: the mice are genetically engineered to express a HARMLESS protein called GFP, or Green Fluorescing Protein. This protein comes from a jellyfish which produces it naturally. When hit by a blue light of a certain wavelength, this protein absorbs the light and emits green light. Thus, the mice appear to glow in the dark.
That's all. No danger, no pain. You are exposed to more radiation and danger by sitting close enough to a computer to read this sentence.
