This is a cover of Artifacts of the Black Rain by In Flames. The instrumental track is the great work by the guitarist Schehf. http://www.youtube.com/user/schehf

The vocals are recorded and "slightly mixed" by me.

Lyrics from darklyrics.com:

Stood there leaning to the city moon,
casting silhouettes tall to grip her white rooms
the black-clad voyeur in his black-clad masque
in the serpentine sun of tragedy basked

Stood there cursing at the soul-dead mass
with their fabled illusions, the vain dreams that passed
splinters of a life rushing by in the whirl
alone, silent warrior in a fantasy world

He cried for night / but night could not come
so, swept in the shroud of misanthropia he went away
and fed the empty galleries
with the artifacts of the black rain
sunken into the shadows with a dry, sardonic smile

He made the footprints a part of his heart
to rouse a sacred confrontation

Stood there carving on the monument to lies
digging of the Earth, making friends with the soil
as the all-mother rises and bares her bleeding thighs
he disappears into her cold, icy womb

  • black metal voice?

  • @8636qwerty I will have to get used to accepting that I believe. I have from time to time tried to get more death metal-like.

  • Hey man, I like your vocals in this. You've got a nice raspy style, and you seem very comfortable with your vocals, which is always a bonus. Can I ask what you use to mix your vocals in with? It'd sound even better with a few mixing adjustments, I'm curious as to what you're using ;)

  • @DE4life Thank you! This is one of my favorites aswell. And my first work without any vocals from the original vocalist in the background.

I can't mix. "Slightly mixed" is almost saying to much. I used some basic standard compressor that I did not even know how to calibrate and then som reverb on some places I believe. All in Audacity.

  • Woah this is fuckin' good man, I really like your voice.... What kind of technique are you using? The quality of everything about this video is really high, well done to the guitarist who made the backing track too! The mixing is grand, I would make the drums a bit louder and the vocals down a tiny bit if it was to be a full band cover... But it's a vocal cover so I like the way you have it mixed for this purpose.

  • @phycho91 Thank you. You tell me, vocal fry possibly. But I am not sure.

Haha, that's very typical if the guitarist mixed the guitars to loud and I as a vocalist mixed the vocals to high. I guess you are right about that, funny :) Glad you liked it! Nice to get some longer comments, and from a member of deathline aswell ! see you around, I will check out your uploads later to!

  • Jooke, this is great. Totally a classic black metal voice but you aren't supposed to sound exactly like the person you trying to cover. Check out my new cover of this song.

  • voice reminds me of mikael stanne's style

  • @DeadThreadGhost You make me happy indeed!
