I forgot to add, when saying "Elsie" you made a gesture with your hands like a woman's hour glass shape,"Elsie" (Pat Phoenix) was regarded as a very sexy woman in those days...and then you held your hand out for a "Tanner" (sixpence)...all of this was started by Norman Vaughan.
When i was very young...we would give thumbs up, (swinging), then, thumbs down (dodgy) and say, Elsie Tanner...my Uncle used to say it as well, in the early 60s i would guess!
When i say it nowadays i get weird looks and laughter, no one knows what i am going on about....great isn't it? ;-)
your the only person apart from myself who I have ever heard use the expresion, Swingin'dodgy ,Elsie Tanner. How do you know that? I don't know how I know it, just something from when I was wee. Amazing!
