US citizen study the US demographic first before learning other countries'. I think it makes perfect sense. A lot of people complain about there are more colleges in TW than before causing college graduates level to be lowered in Taiwan, I totally disagreed. I think it's better for people to go through college education even if they cannot make it into the top schools because the overall education level for a country will increase. Just like U.S. have multi tiers of colleges.
No other nation I know goes about education this way. In the US, the students learn about the 50 States first and then world geography, not the river, harbor, or whatever around the student's house first. The latter is part of informal education, not formal education. It seems that the "new" approach just lowers the value and worth that formal education provides.
