Washwood Heath Brook had become so contaminated with human waste as it flowed through Bordesley Green that the people who lived their kept their windows shut in the summer to protect them from the stink. The cause turned out to be badly connected sewage pipes from new building work.

In this film Margaret Bannon of Bordesley Green North Neighbourhood Forum tells the story of how residents worked with Birmingham City Council, Severn Trent Water, the Environment Agency and CSV to gradually get the residents to repair the faulty work, cleaning up the stream.

This film was first shown at the Better Environments, Betters Lives conference in Birmingham on February 27th 2009, a collaboration between Be Birmingham and the Environment Agency to improve the way we combat environmental inequality.
