Bill Carmichael demonstrates the final results after working out the tune at a slower speed and down an octave.

  • Lifetime of technique to accomplish that. In my view that piece probably fitted the nuances of Maynards style and even the 'licks' he had internalised ... point being that it is a very difficult task to reproduce it. Outstanding effort. No way just an 'honest attempt'

  • Honest attempt? That was great! It nice to see though a player of your level Bill being humble! I think I'm going to get your DVD. Studied with Penzarella, Callet, still not going the way I would like.

  • @trumptite1 i shouldn't but thanks. i was blessed with a high register when i switched to a new mouth piece. just woul dlike to know some tricks on how to play those high notes loud and perfectly and to be able to double tongue them.

  • playing above "triple" high c? sounds like you should be giving lessons.

  • wow tha was great!!! i would like to know something ok...... i am in bryan stations marching band and i would like to know how do youy scream a Double high C? the highest note that i can play is a triple high A above triple high C. i just can't scream it on the marching band field! can u give me a trick or something to help me?

  • you suck

  • great job. The intervals are almost impossible to hit accurately up there! But that's what makes it such a great passage. NICE JOB!

  • You still sounds great Bill! I used to love hearing you with the Balcony band in the burgh.

You should give us a clip of you bringing back the glory days of your famous Penguins hockey theme. That tune is epic and you playing matches what it represents! Awesome hockey and trumpet!

    Ben Bz.

  • that was really good combo of high notes and lip trills just like maynard

  • High tone,yeah! Good exercise.

We are all diffrent in taste what register we like to play in.

I have never heard Chet Baker play in that register, so like Chet I stick to medium register myself, but great effort on this video!

    Thanks!
