In this http://www.artistshousemusic.org interview, Roger H. Brown, President of Berklee College of Music, discusses how the school achieves a balance between theory and practice in their curriculum: that is, emphasizing a grounding in music theory and related fields versus letting students play their instruments in a less constructed environment.

  • I have got agree with "Whatisthescore" .. I went and checked out Berklee and the practice facility was the worst that I have ever seen at any school. One thing that I liked about Texas Tech is that everyone can practice on a baby grand....

  • tru dat, whatisthescore!

  • if you are just concentrating on berklee's facilities, you are not understanding the purpose of berklee itself. It is the most vocational music program i have ever seen, so therefore the purpose of berklee is to prepare the musician for a career. If they dont have the most up to date practice rooms is besides the point, even tho i was just at berklee recently and the rooms were fantastic, people need to see past the appearance of the school and look at its purpose. Then you will understand

  • @jjam3774 thats why you bring your own

  • berklee is great school. if ur complaining about it, you just haven't met great connections or haven't been proficient enough to be around one. where else could you choose your drummer by styles and horns by tones for FREE. stop thinking about how much you've spent but focus on what the hell you can get out from that.

  • Berklee is a scam.

  • I agree. Ive grown to learn music through listening to it and not reading. I wish I could read honestly.

I did not go to berklee. Just toured the college to see if I wanted to transfer there. The facility was just not that good enough.Everything looked run down and in bad condition. I was amazed at how such a place that has such a reputation has such a run down practice facility. The keyboards that I saw were all electric casio like keyboards with no weighted key action. This was not good. Especially if you are a piano performance major.

  • @jjam3774 BOT

  • When did you attend Berklee? I think they changed a lot since last time you've been there. If you check out their website, you'll see they have a lot of some pretty expensive shit in there.. heck, the cymbals I used in my audition were K customs, one of those cost 300+ dollars. There must be at least 5-30k just in cymbals in that college.

  • What did you study/specialize in at Berklee?

  • Roger Brown is a swindler, just look at his face! He wants your money.
