  • Everybody realizes this is an ironic Hymn to Selfishness, right?

Just checking. Sometimes it seems that people think it's an inspiring song about inspiring values, or something.

  • @johnfski61 i honestly never before, but now you've said that i suppose it is:)

  • @saveitforthedancexxx It's not a hymn to selfishness, it's a cry of liberation from the cult of nationality that has haunted the world since the 18th century. This is a man who is choosing to defect from--i.e. betray--his 'homeland' and move to the USA. Both nations are corporate empires, just one is more transpartent in its cruelty. To paraphrase Forster, I hope I will have the guts to betray my country if the time comes to choose between love and patriotism.

  • @daophos i have no idea what any of that means, sorry.

  • Wow , i really love this , since the winner of BGT mr. Jai docwall sang this i fall in love with it .

  • @wallody yeah he was really good at it:) and its an amazing song><

  • This song us about a Russian Guy that lives in America but he still loves Russia and people asks him why would he still loves Russia.

  • @daophos

I would always choose God over country and anything or anyone else.

  • @johnfski61

No I don't really get it so would you elaborate your claim? I've never seen the musical so I don't really know the story, but I've always just seen this song as a man declaring his bond to his nation despite all its flaws.

  • Such a powerful song! Beautifully performed! No offense to any performer, but you have never heard/ experienced this work until you have stood within 10 feet of Miss Linda Edder when she performs it live. What a bloody rush. (June 2007 Boston Opera House with the Boston Gay Men's Chorus)

  • This is amazing!!! I love it!! :)
