Stonewall Democrats Endorse Prop 19 Marijuana Initiative 2010-6-12

Palm Springs Stonewall Democrats were all in favor of endorsing the California Marijuana Initiative to Tax and Regulate marijuana to anyone 21 or older making it legal to possess and to grow marijuana. The ballot initiative will be on the November ballot in California. Lanny Swerdlow presents a convincing argument that this law would raise millions of dollars for cash hungry cities and counties and put an end to the unjust prohibition against marijuana.

He talks about support for the bill, the money it will raise, and the ability of the vote to pass, but never explains the reasons WHY legalization is something to consider. He never speaks about the costs of criminalization and enforcement.

@BI30 Unfortunately there wasn't enough time in this video to cover everything. We will be posting more videos in the future that I hope will answer all the questions. The U.S. arrests about 800,00 people every year for marijuana. You can do the math as to what the costs are to the government but you cannot figure out what the costs are to the families that are harmed by law enforcement because of prohibition.

@BI30 hello the 1st benefit for legalizing marijuana is medicinal, relieving nausia, glacoma, and it some cases cancer. There's many medicinal benefits. 2nd The revenue from the marijuana use would support each county tremendously 3rd The decrease in arrests and imprisonment for use of marijuana would certainly be beneficial. 4th Cost of criminalization isn't practical in light of the benefits of use. 5th Legalizing for adults, makes it an adults responsibilty & freedom of chioce. Thank you
