Tar sands protest

Royal Bank of Canada uses your money to fund and support the Alberta tar sands!!. Students from Fleming College took a stand to stop there funding. In front of RBC students demonstrated the environmental destruction this is causing.

that has to be changed. average everyday canadians have to start demanding the change but actually doing it themselves. we need to be purchasing geothermal heating, solar systems, wind turbines among other techniques to show the big companies that the market is there. with out the everyday consumers on board, any good buisness man will laugh at the idea of change.

I agree, i regret my direct attack on aboriginals it was uncalled for and im sorry for it. however, i disagree on some points there but thats not on topic. I understand that yes we do need to switch our stance on this use of the tar sands. But the economy is what drives the production of the tar sands, and we can blame the big companies for it, and rightly so. but the real change has to be made on the small levels. This idea in life that we need to live bigger, faster and consume more...

JonesTownYourSelf, I was disappointed that you mentioned aboriginals not paying taxes and receiving medical treatment. Aboriginal people get tax breaks because we took over their land, forced our culture and rules on them, and destroyed there previous way of living (which would not have environmental problems or be giving them cancer). Because Native Canadians did not chose any of this, they get tax breaks.... and rightly so.

There are thousands of ways that the money, energy, time, and effort can be better spent than on the oil sands, the cancer that plagues our country. The natural gas that the tar sands consume in a day alone is enough to heat over 3 million homes in Canada. Furthermore, oil is a non-renewable resource and the tar sands will eventually run out. What would the Alberta economy be like then? The switch should be made now when it can be done and while there is still land with other valuable resources

Compensate for lost jobs and revenue by stimulating many other smaller business that have potential to grow, such as newer technologies. For example, money could be invested to help grow a solar panel producing factory, while at the same time create regulations that ensure every new building is equipped with a solar panel on the roof. By doing this the market grows, and the business grows, making it a large enough producer to compete in international markets..........

JonesTownYourSelf. Good Concerns. The Switch to Green energy does seem overwhelming at times however, the change must be done and shutting down the tar sands is a huge step in the right direction. Here is how I suggest Canada shuts down the tar sands:...........

Good video and good meaning behind it. But i have some concerns. How will canada replace this billion dollar industry by simply switching to "green energy"? It brings in huge amounts of tax dollars to our country. I just dont see how we could afford to lose this huge industry, while still supplying aboriginals (who dont pay taxes) with cancer treatments. Im not trying to simply isolate aboriginals, but the fact is you used it as an example for your argument, and i dont see the justifications
