Andrew Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio answers a viewers question...
Q: Last weekend, I went and watched a band at a local club and saw the guitarist playing through the entire song of their last set with one finger! I asked him about it, and he said it's a simple guitar concept called, "One Finger Chords." Can you explain this, because it seems like a super easy thing to use for a terrible rhythm guitar player like me! Thanks.
Robert -- Toronto, Canada
A: This is a very easy idea, it's fantastic for beginners and it can be used in a lot of situations -- almost too many to list. The main idea is all about how a single universal one -finger shape can be moved as a three-string form all around the neck. What is very important to clarify with this approach is how, during this application, the bass player is either strongly supporting, or actually re-defining what the harmony is within each measure. So, to achieve this I'll need to perform an example, along with a bass-track for listeners to fully comprehend how the simplicity of this concept takes a broader form with harmony.

Another popular way to play one-finger chords is with the low E string dropped to D and then just moving simple power chords around.
