so what! rock is rock...and no one can convince me that rap hip hop disco or that soulless regurgitate pop shit is even on the same level as our beloved rock and roll....you seem to read way to much into it. relax smoke a joint and go ahead and listen to you lil fuckin wayne or whatever you like...and i'll listen to my zep and the rest of bands I grew up with. by the way I was 16 when donna summer hit it big with disco....and we still thought it sucked. that's all I got chief..peace

    I totally agree.

Let's start off by kicking out all of these glorified blues and r&b musicians that were called garage, classic rock, metal, punk or whatever because they had amps or played lightning fast Chuck Berry chords.

    You know,bands like The Beattles,The Rolling Stones,Led Zepellin,The Doors,Hendrix,Elvis,Black Sabbath.You know.All of those that define rock.

Oh.So you're one of those that thinks Lil' Wayne's music oversaturates radio & video because he's just that great?

Yes.I do believe in the wizard behind the curtain.Only the wizard(for now atleast)is an unholy trinity named Warner Music Group,Sony Music Entertainment and Universal Music Group--three companies that effectively control 80% of American music market share. These are the only major labels ON THE PLANET!!!

Indeed, this is far worse than conspiracy because these powers are merging.

so you think there's this wizard behind the curtain chopping music up and selling the piece's to an unsuspecting teenagers and labeling each piece either rock, hip hop, or rap, disco,techno..blah blah, blah? although it came from one mythical chord. you make it sound some conspiracy theory. there is a difference, I know because I can hear it. you don't hear it in color, only black and white. sorry man but you don't rock because you don't care.

Yes I know what a genre is.

Something that begins as popular culture in the best sense---gets privatized and commodified--and is then sold back to unsuspecting consumers because companies figured out ways to define it in narrow terms.i.e.,hip hop is now gangsta rap.

Same thing with so-called rock,or whatever.

Indeed, the history of black culture in the US is basically the history of moneyed interests stealing it--repackaging it--and selling it to white America as something genuine and real.
