@TheDiane1953 The Spanish state is not responsible and has no reason to feel shame. Nonetheless if the picture was taken illegally then it needs to be returned and the entity who sold the picture needs to refund the museum. (The same needs to happen throughout the purchase chain.)

Mr. Cassirer deserves to have his family's painting back. It is immoral to retain such a property, stolen by the Nazi government. This video shows how western culture permits such extortion and theft if an excuse can be provided.

This man deserves his painting back,or a full reimbersment !Spain should be ashamed for keeping stolen property [from the nazis].They should at least be fair with this man and reimberse him.This is so typical of what the German nazis did,they destroyed so many peoples lives.

good point. that seems to have been forgotten. People with disabilities were also deemed to be deficient by the nazis. As were the elderly, the infirm and the ill. What I find ironic is the fact that many people now proclaiming themselves to be nazis fail to understand that under the 'real' nazi movement, they too would would have been exterminated. Hitlers parameters for the so called 'super race' were so narrow that the majority of the western population would have failed to meet his criteria
