The raygun

Scene from episode 1 of the 1943 Batman rare serial originally created as fifteen fifteen-minute episodes shown before feature films. Reflecting anti-Japanese sentiment that was prevalent in America at that time, the serial centers upon Batman's efforts to rid Gotham of a Japanese spy ring that uses zombies, alligators, and submarines to strike terror into the heart of the populace.
This is a screener from a showing I attended at the Skirball Cultural Center that coincided with a special exhibit "The Superhero: The Golden Age of Comic Books 1938-1950." The show ran from February to August and closed with this full length rare showing on Sunday August 9th, 2009.

In this scene you can see the main villain- Dr Tito as he introduces the raygun (an integral piece in the series) to his croonies and demonstrates it's power.
